Save The Date

HEY EVERYONE!!

We have an event coming up on Sunday, December 2nd, 2012 featuring a DOPE band from Florida that are bring their "Paint The City Red" tour to NY! This band reminds me of a Christian contemporary version of the Black Eyed Peas, and if you don't believe me, you'll soon see for yourself =)

We're partnering with The Atmopshere and other local sponsors to make this event HUGE! We'll have more details about the venue, time, other artists, etc. soon, but for now - SAVE THE DATE!

TRU Praise Inside The Music

On August 25, TRU Praise hosted an "Inside The Music" concert that featured them, their music, and the stories of their experience together in an intimate setting. We were at Complete Studios located in lovely Brooklyn NY, started off with the leader of TRU Praise, Marcus Pass (@BigUncleTRU) giving the history of TRU Praise and what they have worked towards since its inception.  He also asked the audience for feedback on their recent album "Journey", this album debuted at Number 6 on the Christian/Gospel charts on iTunes on its release date. People shared their thoughts and feedback on this great project and they also shared what they thought could be improved on. After all cables were plugged in and microphones checked, it was time to start.

TRU Praise started off their set with "Choose Christ". This is by far my favorite song on the album. I love what it represents, the anthem in which it has, and the vigor that it must be sung with. Followed by that was, All the Time, The Calling, Fix My Heart, and Glad. These songs have not only become permanent fixture in TRU's performance, but it has become something that was made to make a difference and their music is clearly making a difference in and around New York City. Great job TRU Praise!! To purchase "The Journey" (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/journey/id518058957)

From beginning to end this was pure energy from an awesome group and we finally got to hear their story. If you want more information on TRU Praise you can go to their website: http://trupraisemusic.com, Twitter: @TRUPraise, and FaceBook: http://www.facebook.com/TRUPraise.

Power In Prayer

Hey Everyone!!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and I hope you're ready for an amazing new week!

Today, I'm coming to encourage you all regarding the power of PRAYER

This morning, I woke up in a wonderful mood! In church yesterday, my pastor, started a new sermon series entitled "Prayer, Fasting, & Consecration" and I gained SO much and woke up ready to apply everything that I learned.  I turned my commute to the train station into a prayer walk and my train ride into a time to reflect and ask God to change me in any way He see's fit.  I got to work feeling energized, happy, excited, and then...I get a phone call.

The phone call disturbed me SO much and I was SO ready to be miserable and angry, when I remembered that I'm making an effort to consecrate myself this week.  I had to remind myself that I have to produce the fruit of the spirit in all that I do and I immediately stopped working and said a prayer asking God to help me to exhibit love, peace, and joy even in the midst of bad news or news that may hit one of my nerves (yall know how that is! lol).  I had to ask Him to help me to not allow things to get to me so quickly and to not allow my emotions to take control over me and cause it to mess up my day and/or my mindset.  I prayed this simple prayer with faith, and as soon as I was done, it was as if a weight had been lifted.

Many people walk around with burdens, baggage, and in emotional turmoil - however large or small - and forget that, as children of God, THAT IS NOT OUR PORTION! We are ENTITLED to FREEDOM and we need to claim it and live like it!

So yes, I just want to encourage all of you to never neglect the power of prayer and direct communication with God.  He wants to hear from us and He wants to help us, so open up your heart and release anything you may be going through, over to Him and watch how your day will completely shift for the better!

I hope this was a blessing to you all! =)

"You Are God" Single Release Party

Hey Everyone!!

Last week Tuesday night (on August 7th, 2012), Gospel Unplugged was privileged to be at Ella Lounge to celebrate Brandon Camphor and One Way's new single, "You Are God" that was released that day! This was my first single release party and I had SUCH a great time!!

The party was at a low key lounge and was PACKED with supporters! Brandon shared his story of moving to NY not knowing anyone but still following the leading of the Holy Spirit, he came anyway, and was able to successfully pull off an amazing night with the help of friends and well-wishers.

If you haven't already, go and download the group's single "You Are God".  This song is filled with lyrics that express how amazing God is and it definitely easily causes listeners to get lost in worship.  When the group performed this song at the party, they actually ended up going into a mini worship session, which was amazing! (I'm a big supporter of bringing the gospel to non-conventional spots, so a mini worship session in a basement lounge in the middle of the city, was just what I needed to end off a fabulous night!).

Show love to Brandon Camphor and One Way by following them on twitter @Bc1way and buying their new single "You Are God" available on iTunes!

You're Ink'd!

Hey Everyone!!

Today I come to you to share a new ministry that is doing a WONDERFUL work in their community.

Before I go into details about the ministry, I just want to share a bit with you about the founder.  I met Jan Sylvert earlier this year and have been totally blessed by her friendship.  She is SUCH a genuine young lady who has a heart for people.  When she told me about this new ministry, I was blown away, and I HAD to share it with all of you!!

GU: What is the name of your company?
Jan: Ink’d Street Ministry (I.S.M.)

GU: Where did the name come from?
Jan: When God placed it in my heart to start a street ministry, I prayed and asked him to lead me to a scripture that would give me the name of the ministry.  As I prayed, He led me to Isaiah 49:16 which says “I can never forget about you for I have written your name on the palms of my hands.”  After I read this God began to speak to me.  He said that He would never write our names using a pencil because that is erasable.  Instead he would write our names using a pen or even tattoo our names into His palm because once it is ink’d, it can never be removed.  So this is where the name comes from and the slogan of the ministry is “You're Ink’d!”

GU: What was your motivation to start this ministry? Did you always have a heart for evangelism?
Jan: I always knew that I was called to be an evangelist but after I went to H4G on June 18th, 2012, God really began to speak to me about it.  That night at a bible study called Hungry 4 God (H4G), the speaker Jay R., was basically talking about sharing our inheritance with others. He said a statement that sparked something inside of me.  He shared with us that for 6 months he prayed to God for a gift of healing and God spoke back to him and said when are you going to see if you have the gift if you never go out to apply it.  When I was on my way home from H4G, God began to speak to me.  He said to me just like Jay R., you always pray to be used by me, but when will you make yourself available to be used? After that night I told God that I would go out and really try to make disciples of all nations like we are told to.  So the desire to start a street ministry and evangelize was always there, but the boldness to actually step out on faith and do it happened that night after I left H4G.

GU: What are your plans for the future? Upcoming events?
Jan: I.S.M. has been here for a little bit over a month so myself and others are still coming up with different events.  We recently went out and fed the homeless.  We made 50 lunch bags filled with a turkey and cheese sandwich, a bag of chips, water, and an encouraging flyer letting them know that they are ink’d in God’s hand.  Our plan is to have at least two events a month.  The next event we want to have is to create a poster board that says “need prayer?” and stand on the corner of the streets with it, welcoming those who may need or want prayer.  I realized that there are a lot of people who would like prayer but are anti-church.  Making ourselves available to pray for others can reach out to many people.  In the future, I also plan to have events where we visit children in hospitals, the elderly in nursing homes, participating in soup kitchens, and more.  Any event that is done is basically to reach out to others letting them know that they aren’t forgotten.

GU: How can people contact you if they would like to be apart of this movement?
Jan: If anyone would like to contact me to be apart they can e-mail us at yourinkd@gmail.com

GU: Any additional information you'd like to share?
Jan: I will never forget one particular experience my friend Janelle and I had recently with this young homeless woman.  Janelle and I were praying around Times Square one day when we came across this homeless lady.  She was a young Caucasian woman who looked to be around 25 years old.  She was sitting on the floor on 42nd and Broadway.  Her clothes were completely dirty and torn, her hair was starting to dread and she had a big beautiful black dog.  She had a sign in front of her that said that she used to live in a park but cops kicked her out and took all her belongings and she has nothing.  Her sign also asked if people could give money.  Her head was down when I got in front of her, but as I put $5 in her can she lifted her  head and I looked at her and said “God bless you” and continued to walk away.  As I walked away I felt the need to go back to her but I wasn’t sure if I should.  A few seconds after I had that thought my friend Janelle looked to me and said “Jan, I think we should go back to her and talk to her”.  After Janelle had the same feeling as me I knew that I had to go back to speak to her.  So as we walked back, I knelt down to her level and I introduced myself and Janelle and I asked her what her name was.  She told us her name was Mouse (I believe that’s her nickname) and she said her dog’s name was Rucus.  I then asked her if she ate yet and if she was hungry.  She told me that she wasn’t hungry and that she ate already but she was in the mood for a mango smoothie.  So I told her that I would gladly get her one.  As Janelle and I were walking to McDonald’s to get her smoothie, we knew that we were going to speak to Mouse for some time.  We knew that we weren’t just supposed to give her the smoothie and leave. When we were walking back to Mouse with her smoothie, I told Janelle that we should sit on the floor with her instead of talking to her standing.  I really felt like the Holy Spirit was telling me to be humble and sit with her on the floor.  So when we got back to Mouse we gave her the smoothie and she was so happy.  I then asked her if we could sit with her and talk with her.  She seemed so surprised but was happy and welcomed us.  Before we even spoke about God we spent about 15-20 minutes talking, laughing, and getting to know her.  Because of this she became really comfortable with us.  Later on in the conversation God was able to switch the conversation about him and I began to evangelize and minister to her.  I could tell through the look on her face that she was listening to every word that I was saying. After I ministered, the three of us later joined hands in prayer. I know that this was ministering to all the other people in Times Square walking around us.  I felt the need to give her my phone number and I told her that if she ever needed to just talk and vent with anyone that I would be here to listen. It was amazing because what the world would call “ugly” because she was dirty and had an odor was so beautiful to me.  A few minutes before Janelle and I met up with Mouse, I felt an incredible amount of love in my heart.  I didn’t know it was supernatural at the time, but I felt so much love that I was walking and hugging myself.  I was telling Janelle that I am feeling so much love and I need to hug someone to transfer what I’m feeling inside.  Little did I know the love I was feeling was actually for Mouse. After we prayed I looked at her and asked her if I could give her a hug.  I hugged her so tight and I kept telling her in her ears “I love you, I love you, I love you”.  I knew she felt the love that I had for her because when I wanted to end the hug and leave she grabbed me and kept hugging me.  After she let go of me she looked at me, smiled and said “you know how to give good hugs”.  Janelle and I had left over food in our bags and we gave it to her and left.  As we were leaving her, I had tears rolling down my face because I never experienced that before.  It was such a beautiful moment that I will never ever forget.  When I encounter experiences like this, it makes me love that I am involved in street ministry.

Here's Jan and some of the other people who helped out with the lunch bag evangelism

I don't know about you all, but this ministry sounds like something AMAZING!! If you or someone you know would like to join, you can contact the ministry via email at yourinkd@gmail.com.

We are definitely supporters of the way that I.S.M is unplugging the gospel

Dinner On A Rooftop AND Ciao Baby!

Hey Everyone!!

It's been a while but I've got a YUMMY post to share with you all! As some may know, my birthday was a couple weeks ago, and I went to two fabulous restaurants! First, my family took me to an Italian Family Lounge called Ciao Baby (my sister had to find a place that was appropriate to celebrate a 24 year old's bday and that also allowed a 3 year old - my baby sister - to be there! lol) and then the mister took me to the AMAZING Rooftop Restaurant and Lounge. (PS: This wasn't all in the same night lol)

So, for those who know me, know that I LOOOOOVE pasta and Ciao Baby had all the pasta I needed and MORE! lol.  The abiance of the restaurant was very low key, big tables, big portions, and VERY personable waiters.  I got to spend time with my family and enjoy a delicious meal, you can't ask for much more than that.

Then, on the Sunday, Mister Charles made sure we had the perfect view at The Rooftop Restaurant and reserved balcony seats where we were surrounded by the Brooklyn skyline from the Park Slope restaurant.  The food was DELICIOUS and the sounds of jazz favorites such as Esperanza Spalding filled the air.  To top it off, the owner saw it fit to treat us to a complimentary glass of Moscato - seriously, it gets no better than this! lol.

Here's me with my food at Ciao Baby - YUM YUM!

My Sisters and their food =)

At the Rooftop Restaurant - my Food on the left (chicken, mashed potatoes, and spinach) and the Mister's food on the right (Chicken, mashed potatoes, and honey glazed carrots!)

I honestly had SUCH an amazing birthday and I'm sooo grateful for my family and for my hunk boyfriend who made the weekend just FABULOUS!!

Fun, Family, Food, and Love - it get's no better than that!

Chris Jackson Live at SOB's

What's good everyone? Hope you are enjoying your summer so far, soaking in the sun and taking part in all your city has to offer for this season.  Last week Wednesday, Celeste (@LessyAngel) and I went to Sol Village Presented by Singersroom at SOB's, but it also served as a 30th birthday celebration for Dwayne "DW" Wright one of NYC's premiere bass players and musicians. This was an awesome celebration because the who's who of NYC music was out in full effect to celebrate with DW and be apart of Sol Village.

We also went to see Chris Jackson the only Christian artist on the bill for the evening. If you've read our other blogs you would know how phenomenal Chris is as an artist and what he can do. Chris opened the show and the moment he was on stage you felt his energy. You may think because we weren't in a church or he was the only Christian artist that the people wouldn't be receptive. They were all up in his music! He started off his set with "Joy" his single from the A-Minor Musik compilation album, and he closed his set with "Rearview Mirror" his current single.  It was great to see a Christian artist bring something different to the table yet it was excepted in a room of full people expecting R&B for the entire night. Christian music is evolving and we are taking  it to places where it's least expected, strides are being made, barriers are being  broken, and we are no longer wanting to do things the regular way. Chris has a project schedule to come out in the Fall of 2012.

Be sure to check up with us and get all the information pertaining to that. Let's keep unplugging the gospel! Peace and Love, Terrence

The Most Beautiful Sin

Hey Everyone!!

I shared this testimony before on the Gospel Music Lounge website, but I thought it would be pretty cool to share it with my Gospel Unplugged people too! So, here goes...

Sex. In today’s society, everyone wants it, whether it is its appeal or the physical action, but, who can blame us? When you walk down the street, multiple corporations representing brands for clothing or alcohol, entice us and nonverbally tell us that sex is ok. It’s ok to use your body and sexuality to attain pleasures of the world. It’s ok to wear clothes that seductively show your body because, obviously, that’s what you have to do to get what you want, whether that may be sex or perhaps a higher position in life.
I fell into this trap not too long ago.  In high school I had low self-esteem: I thought I was ugly, fat, and lacked confident in who I was as a person. Though I grew up in church and knew the Word, I still yearned for more, something that could make me feel good; this is when I got caught up in that 3-letter word: S-E-X.
I had my first boyfriend in 9th grade and he made me feel wonderful! He told me all the things I wanted to hear, that I was pretty, beautiful, and most importantly, sexy. So, the day came when he wanted more than just kissing and hugging so, we devised a plan: I was going to meet him at his house to “do it”. The day came and I was scared but ready…but thank the Lord, when the time came I copped out, and as a result he broke up with me.
Leaving that relationship even emptier than before, I was still seeking for more and found it in my junior year of high school. I came into contact with another young man who would soon be “the one”; so I thought. Again, this guy thought I was sexy and without even having to ask, I gave myself to him. It was great! He began telling me how sexy I was and I was satisfied. Sex was giving me a higher self-esteem; after all, you don’t have sex with someone unless they are hot and sexy. I began working out, eating better (though, I never could look good enough for myself- which was a sign), my self-esteem was rising, the sex kept me going. This was my disposition even when I reached to college, and by then there was no way anyone could tell me the person I was with wasn’t going to be my always and forever.
This kept up, but ironically, I always STILL found something wrong with me. The entire time, while knowingly living in sin, my duties in church only increased and my music ministry was beginning to flourish. God knew what he was doing. I came into contact with a drummer and a bass player who I asked to play for my church choir and, through these two young men, a band was formed, Anointed Musicians Movement. This group was the beginning of a major change that God was setting up in my life. In May of 2008 we all went on the Pentecostal Association of North America Youth Retreat.  My church has been part of this organization, but this retreat was the first one I had been on in about 5 years.   The theme was “No limits, No boundaries”. On Saturday that weekend, I was asked to sing the theme song. I had no idea how it went in it’s entirety but I figured, “I’ll just wing it”.
When the time came for me to minister, the Holy Spirit took FULL control.  I began singing like I never had before. People were being delivered, lives were being changed, and God used me in the most amazing way.  Ironically, while ministering the song, I was not only ministering to the many people there, but to myself.  This retreat helped me come to terms with my life.  I had been in denial for years and God used me as a vehicle to speak to me!
After this weekend, I confronted various issues and the first was with my boyfriend who, by then, I had been dating for two years. We were unequally yoked and there was NO WAY God could use me the way he wanted to with him in my life.  I broke off that relationship and my relationship with God increased tremendously.  In addition, God had someone who was perfect for me, who I’m with right now!
Today, I am proud to say that I know who I am in Christ.  I have confidence in the fact that I was made in Christ’s image; that I am wonderfully made and that I don’t need to have sex to feel satisfied with myself I have a relationship with Christ that is more fulfilling than anything else I can ask for.
I say all of this to say that, sex, as powerful as it is, is NOT going to fulfill us! As good as it may feel at the moment and despite society’s view of it being necessary, know that this is a lie! Stand strong against temptation, do what the Lord requires of us and wait until marriage, be a light in the midst of darkness, and be positive in who you are in Christ!
