Happy New Year w/ DMG

Happy New Year!!

I know, it's been a while, but I'm back again with another posting!

Gospel Unplugged was privileged enough to celebrate the new year w/ Destiny Music Group at their Sandy Relief Concert on Sunday, 1/6/13 at their of 2013 and we had an awesome time!

The concert took place Roulette, a beautiful theater space in the downtown Brooklyn area right off of Atlantic Avenue.  The first artist who hit the stage was Thomas Clay.  This was my first time hearing him and boy oh boy was he AMAZING! He started off explaining that though he writes R&B music for other artists, for himself, he can't see himself doing anything else but gospel because he understands the call that God has on his life for ministry.  Following this, he sang a song that was pretty much an R&B song to God! It was soooooooo amazing! Whoo! And then he went into a song called "I Need A Heart For You" where he also played guitar and as the song proceeded, it became a mini worship session.  The presence of God was sooo strong in that place.  I've got to say, Thomas Clay is one anointed and super talented artist.  My fiance got his CD and I can NOT wait to preview it! (I know, it's been a couple days, but it's been a BUSY couple days lol).

A rapper by the name of Stephen the Levite also graced the stage and did 2 selections, one of which he was accompanied by DMG's very own artist, Antia, who did an amazing job on the hook/chorus (I totally think I have a vocal crush on her voice! lol).  Then DMG came to the stage, led by Aaron Brockett, and sang two of their original songs, one of which was "I Wanna Go To Heaven".  They're really such a talented group of vocalists and musicians!

Lastly, Chantae Cann hit the stage and she was incredible!! The first time I heard Chantae sing was in December at a close friend's wedding.  Before then I had only heard YouTube clips so, since the wedding I was super excited to hear her sing again.  Her voice is unbelievably beautiful and has such a pure sound! She sang two originals and on the last one Aaron Brockett and Thomas Clay came on stage and sang with her.  It was the perfect ending to an amazing event.

I would definitely go to another DMG event in the future! To stay in the loop with DMG or to get more information about their company, visit their website, www.destinymusicgroup.net!

"You Are God" Single Release Party

Hey Everyone!!

Last week Tuesday night (on August 7th, 2012), Gospel Unplugged was privileged to be at Ella Lounge to celebrate Brandon Camphor and One Way's new single, "You Are God" that was released that day! This was my first single release party and I had SUCH a great time!!

The party was at a low key lounge and was PACKED with supporters! Brandon shared his story of moving to NY not knowing anyone but still following the leading of the Holy Spirit, he came anyway, and was able to successfully pull off an amazing night with the help of friends and well-wishers.

If you haven't already, go and download the group's single "You Are God".  This song is filled with lyrics that express how amazing God is and it definitely easily causes listeners to get lost in worship.  When the group performed this song at the party, they actually ended up going into a mini worship session, which was amazing! (I'm a big supporter of bringing the gospel to non-conventional spots, so a mini worship session in a basement lounge in the middle of the city, was just what I needed to end off a fabulous night!).

Show love to Brandon Camphor and One Way by following them on twitter @Bc1way and buying their new single "You Are God" available on iTunes!

Album Review: 'Sound of War, Cry of Freedom' - The Broken Chainz Band

by Sam Milord

The CCM and Gospel arena has been long-plagued with stereotypes of sounding generic and bland. The faces of Gospel have seemingly been the same over the past couple of years and new artists that come into the scene seem to just imitate the sound. However, that doesn’t hold true for the Long Island natives, “The Broken-Chainz Band”. In their debut album “Sound of War, Cry of Freedom” they seek to impact lives through a new sound called Freedom Music, and they accomplish just that.

The album begins with an epic intro-monologue entitled, “Freedom Speech” reminiscent of a commander inspiring troops for battle. The speech is backed by ocean waves, and strong winds accompanied by army drums and the powerful vocals of Saeed Renaud, which encompasses the intensity of the bands’ sound. The album then kicks off with the Broken Chainz lead single, that gained the band a following in the UK, "Freedom Cry", quickly followed by another song of desperation “Musicians Cry”. The album then goes into “Broken Glass”, which seems to have strong “third-single potential”. Renaud takes full lead on this song, pushing forth heartfelt emotions through his voice in lyrics such as “I didn’t want to let it go, I thought that your love was replaceable, but now I know, put me back together”.

The album’s standout track in my opinion would be “Cross Anthem”. The song begins with an infectious guitar line that carries out through the first half of the song, turning a tune beloved by church mothers everywhere into a fist pumping head banger. Broken Chainz deserves top-notch musical accolades for turning the beloved hymn “At the Cross” into a song that one could, dare I say, dougie too?! The song is then mashed with rhymes from band front-man, ”Juice” Alexidor, concluding with a pad/synth heavy climax. It’s a 5-star track that you have to hear for yourself.

Though Broken Chainz’s musical style is predominantly edgy, the album has its fair share of worship tracks. The song “Merciful God” is a heart-rending song reflecting on God’s eternal enduring mercies. It’s a song that is a must-have in any church’s worship repertoire. Renaud’s smooth vocals are once again perfect on this track. Also worthy of note the steady but catchy anthem “We are the Chosen”, featuring the unique, soul piercing vocals of the Rock Righteous Queen, Jovita Sheppard. Sheppard does the track justice, with a voice purposed to bring anyone struggling to realize that they are more than conquerors.

“Sound of War, Cry of Freedom” is an album that will be played over and over again from start to finish. There is no track that can be overlooked. The band has truly put together a piece that is strong both musically and lyrically. Broken Chainz has released a new sound that everyone needs to catch and download the album on iTunes. FIST IN THE AIR!!!!!

Danielle Lewis - Surrender

Hello my darlings!

So, if you follow us on twitter and/or facebook then you should know by now that TODAY DANIELLE LEWIS' NEW SINGLE OFF OF HER UPCOMING WORSHIP EP DROPS FOR FREE!!!!

Ok, enough shouting, lol.

When I first heard that Danielle Lewis was dropping a single, I got SO excited. As a person, I admire this young woman of God SOOOO much; she is truly inspirational and she has SUCH a big heart (I LOVE YOU DANNI!). As an artist, she is creative and her voice is O-MAZING! So, knowing these things, I knew that whatever she released was going to be great, especially since it's coming off of her worship EP (she's a serious worshipper too!). After I really sat down and listened to the song, I realize, it EXCEEDED my expectations!

I think one of the most important parts of any song are the lyrics and the lyrics to this song are SO powerful and relatable. Then I remembered that Matthew Thomas (most commonly known as Matt T.) co-wrote the song! (If you've never heard of his ministry, then I'm going to shamelessly plug it in now (and not only because I sing back-up for him lol) - check out his facebook page when you get the chance - www.facebook.com/PsalmistKing). The words are something that just about anyone can relate to if their hearts cry is to totally surrender to Christ.

Overall, it is a very powerful, well-written, intriguing, heart song that you ALL should listen to if you haven't already.

To download the single for FREE, go to Danielle Lewis' website! Enjoy!! :) http://www.purelydanielle.com/

Mali Music's Story

Hey! Hope ya'll enjoyed the holiday weekend. Sadly enough I didn't get any BBQ invites but it's ok. The Lord knows my heart and He will provide me some BBQ pork ribs, OH! Ya'll not hearing me today!

Seriously though, back to business lol.

We all know (and hopefully love) Mali Music. He has taken the Gospel Music industry by storm with his new urban contemporary sound, edifying lyrics, and intricate musical production. I recently had the pleasure of attending the "B.E.T. Music Matters" event this past April at Crash Mansion (that's where we held our first event for Danielle Lewis!) and I can tell you, the crowd went CRAZY for Mali, and he delivered!

Though we know his Music, do we really know his story? Many of us can sing along with his music word for word, but do we know what God did for him? Do we know the Mali before the Music? Well a while ago I came across this interview of Mali conducted by P4CM where Mali Music got the chance to go deep into his testimony and past and I was touched. He shared his search, his struggles, and even his fallings. I know that I myself was able to relate with Mali and I think you can to. Check it out below.

Hope this blessed you like it blessed me!
